I've been asked, so what are your thoughts?
Here's mine:
>>>>>>>>>>
Currently, all of the PipeSmith platform is built around the 18500 series flat top batteries, with the exception of the occasionally requested "Limited Series" custom build.
I am, however, currently putting serious consideration into the possibilities surrounding the return of an 18650 option in the "Legend" and/ or "Lodge Series" pipe bodies. At the end of the day, it really boils down to being enough demand for such to justify the "change-ups" and adjustments necessary in the boring/ building process.
Just as with the return of a "finished version" of the Huntsman and Trapper body styles (now known as the Lodge Series), as well as with the more-recent return of the optional surfacings for these pipes - If a reasonable number of pipe users wish for an 18650 body - we'll likely offer one.
Do keep in mind, however, that this addition to the platform would neither be intended, nor built for powering atomizers built in much different manner than currently employed across the PipeSmith platform. The addition of the 18650 battery to the PipeSmith options is one presented in direct response to the user's desire of possibly increasing the range (time/ distance) of his pipe, not delving into the deeper sub-ohm/ high amperage vaping practices; the same build parameters as the current PipeSmith platform will be used, entailing 6Amp fused protection/ ~0.8ohm build or higher.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>
We'll put it to the PipeSmith community - is there enough desire to keep an 18650 in the stable?
/K

All I can say is that I think my 18650 Limited is the best thing I ever did in the vapeing world. I love this thing. That does not address , at least directly what you are proposing, but it does give me some thoughts on it. I think it would be a move for the owner in the direction of a limited pipe without the expense & would be a very satisfying step in that direction. So with that in mind I am in favor of the Idea. It would fill a gap in the line that may not be glaring but is undeniably there.

Am a little on the fence with this one. I have nothing against using an 18650 in a pipe and certainly not one of Kens. To me the 18650 battery requires a very large pipe body and that is where I lean more toward the 18500 to 18350 size of batterys. Then again I don't have any pipes that take an 18650 battery so... It also depends on the shape and style of the pipe. In the right pipe an 18650 battery may not appear to be such a large pipe. So I don't know, I guess I will just say I am undecided on this.

Butch and gwbruce - both are valid. The Lodge Series is more of a "semi-custom" e-pipe. Labeled as the "Adventure Ready" line of pipes, these are built within certain design parameters respective to their particular body style - each with their own character as they remain individually hand made. The size of an e-pipe body has always been a point of concern; you guys will remember just a few years ago that we couldn't hardly give away an 18500 body pipe/ now, that's the mainstay, as there is the constantly growing understanding of the parameters that must be met in order for the e-pipe to be successful. Parameters that simply do not exist in tobacco pipes, along with the self-imposed parameters that attribute to the rugged nature, durability and reliability synonymous with PipeSmith, as explained HERE.With regard to the sizing of the new "Lodge Series" style - what I have thus far worked out for this pipe body would only entail ~3/8" increase in body height. That's right - a battery that is almost 5/8" longer, but fit into a package that's only about 3/8" larger than the most popular and sought after e-pipe platform. In addition - the way I have this body style to be set up will visually provide cues as to belonging with the other 18500 "Lodge Series" e-pipes. ETA >>> With regard to pricing; this new style would fall in the same relative pricing window as the other Lodge Series packages. The current basic Lodge Series package for the Huntsman and Trapper body styles (finished pipe body, Taper Bore Stem Kit, container of Pipe Butter) is $150.00, with the optional surfacing upgrades available. The new style would run ~$160.00 for the basic Lodge Series package, and also have the same availability of the surfacing upgrade. /K

I like the idea of 18650 Ken, more than like actually. My huntsman isn't used as much as it deserves because it's 18500. Any pipes I make myself are 18650 and I get them to fit better in the hand each attempt. You would knock it out of the park and I would definitely consider buying one for this reason

You would knock it out of the park and I would definitely consider buying one for this reason It's definitely happening, and would like to have a photo of this model by some time late this weekend. These work out to being just a touch taller than the 18500 bodies - essentially, if you looked at your Huntsman (roughly the equivalent of the current Lodge Series pipes) and could envision just adding the height of a second lid on top of the pipe, that would be pretty close as to where these will run. This pipe model will also have a slightly steeper rake in the shank angle in relation to the body - this helps draw down the footprint as well, both real and perceived. While the operating parameters will remain ***CLOSE TO*** the same, the 18650 will increase the range a bit - same horsepower/ slightly larger fuel tank. I look forward to running one of these. /K
